Sherri Miller, M.S. Ed.

Sherri Miller began playing the flute at the age of 10 and was a member of the Opp High School Marching Black and Gold Band.  After graduating from a homeschool cover school in 2004, Sherri went on to attend Troy University where she marched in the "Sound of the South" marching band as a piccolo player and played flute in the Troy University Symphony Band.  While at Troy, Sherri had the opportunity to play in the Symphony Band which recorded two albums for composer Stephen Melillo.  In 2011, Sherri graduated with her Bachelor of Music Education degree and in 2014, completed a Master of Science in Education (Instrumental Music) degree, also from Troy University.

Sherri began her teaching career in elementary music at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School where she taught beginner band and general music classes.  She then became the award-winning band and choir director at Dale County High School in Midland City, AL.  After four years at Dale County, Sherri decided to change pace and joined the team at Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center where she taught choir classes and served as the special education case manager.

During her time at Laurel Oaks, Sherri decided to pursue her dream of joining the Alabama National Guard as a flute player.  After enlistment, she went to Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at the United States Army School of Music where she spent 10 weeks on intensive study on the flute.  She is now a member of the 151st Army Band in Montgomery, AL.

With Sherri's experience as a band director, she has skills to teach beginnings instruments of all kinds and with her advanced training and experience on flute, she is able to give woodwind players more intense instruction on their instrument.

Sherri hopes to grow her school so that she can also begin to offer Music Exploration classes and other classes of benefit to musicians.  With her lifelong love and study of music, she hopes to make a positive impact on the lives of others through music!
